Punjab Girls Become Champions in Pre-Subroto Cup

In July 2025, the ICSE Pre-Subroto Cup was organized in the city of Jagraon, Maharashtra. Teams from nine states across India participated. In the matches played here, Punjab’s girls showcased outstanding performance and secured their selection for the International Subroto Cup. Foreign teams also participate in the International Subroto Cup. This victory has brought pride to Punjab’s sports community, and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains specially congratulated the players from Sant Baba Hari Singh Model School, Mahilpur, District Hoshiarpur.
In the first semifinal match, Punjab defeated the host team with a score of 3-0. Similarly, Karnataka successfully defeated Bihar with a score of 4-0. Punjab’s girls displayed their technical skills, captivating the audience. In the final match, Punjab’s Joya scored two goals, not only making her team the champion but also winning the Best Player award. Karnataka’s team got opportunities to score but failed to convert them. Their strategy could not stand up to the tactical play of Punjab’s girls. Punjab’s Sonia also won the Best Defender award.
It is also noteworthy that the players from Sant Baba Hari Singh Model School, Mahilpur, an ICSE school—Amandeep, Mariam, Jasmine, Harleen, Fiza, Manpreet Kaur, and Jia—are receiving coaching at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Football Academy, Posi, under coaches Sandeep Singh and Kulwinder Kaur. This academy is producing international-level players like Harmin Kaur. The team’s coaches, Sandeep Singh and Sandeep Kumar, stated that this team will deliver outstanding results in the International Subroto Cup as well. Principal Shibbu Maithio encouraged these students and assured that all their education and coaching would be provided free of cost. The entire region’s sports clubs and educational institutions honored these champion girls from Punjab.
