SAS Nagar, July 23- The Punjab government had decided to implement the Pay Commission recommendations from January 1, 2016 and pay the arrears to retired employees in 42 equal installments from May 2025. This decision was implemented in the offices, boards and corporations of the Punjab government, and retired employees are receiving these benefits along with their monthly salary. However, the Punjab School Education Board seems unable to implement this decision yet.
More than 2,000 employees and officers of the board are waiting for the installment of this arrears. It is still uncertain whether the installment of arrears will be received with the salary of August 1 or not. The guidelines of the 6th Pay Commission were to be implemented from January 1, 2016, but the then Captain government of Punjab did not pay any attention to it, and the employees and retired employees kept waiting for these benefits till the end of Captain Amarinder Singh's tenure as Chief Minister.
During his brief tenure, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi gave the arrears benefits as per the guidelines of the 6th Pay Commission, but the arrears, i.e. the arrears, due from January 1, 2016, were not paid. The Aam Aadmi Party had promised that if their government was formed, they would pay the arrears in a month. However, even after more than three and a half years, they kept procrastinating in paying the arrears.
Finally, the government decided to pay the arrears in 42 equal installments from May 2025, which has been implemented across Punjab. Along with this, it was also decided to pay this arrears in small installments to retired teachers above the age of 85 years, but the Punjab School Education Board has not yet implemented this decision.
Despite the retired employees' leaders writing letters several times demanding the release of the arrears, the retired employees of the board have not yet received any installment of the arrears. The retired employees are angry with this attitude of the board management.
Their only question is whether the installment of arrears will be given with the salary of August 1 or not. Now it is up to the board management to see when they implement the orders of the Punjab government—whether they will give the arrears on August 1 or make the retired employees wait longer.
