Patna- Gangster Chandan Mishra was shot dead by five armed men at Paras Hospital in Patna this morning. Mishra, who was currently on parole, was admitted to the ICU. The footage of the attack captured in the hospital's CCTV cameras has raised big questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar and public safety.
According to the police, the attackers entered the hospital very comfortably. They went to Mishra's cabin, fired shots and fled the scene within minutes. Mishra was a resident of Buxar district and an accused in several cases. He was hit by several bullets and succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
SSP Kartike Sharma said that initial investigation suggests the hand of the Chandan Sheru gang behind this. “We are working with Buxar police to identify and track down the attackers,” Sharma said. Police are also probing whether hospital staff or security personnel were involved in the attack.
The killing, which took place in broad daylight at a private hospital, has angered people and has criticised the state government’s handling of crime. In the last few weeks, Patna has witnessed several high-profile murders, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat and lawyer Jitendra Mahito.
“Gunmen entered the ICU and shot a patient. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar today? There was no such situation before 2005,” said Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha called the incident “very unfortunate” and assured immediate action.
