Chandigarh,- Shiromani Akali Dal has suffered a big setback before the by-election in the Tarn Taran assembly constituency. Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former MLA from Tarn Taran Harmeet Singh Sandhu has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today.

At Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia have inducted Sandhu into the party. It is noteworthy that Harmeet Singh Sandhu has been elected MLA from Tarn Taran thrice - as an independent in 2002 and as an independent in 2007 and 2012 from the Shiromani Akali Dal. Sandhu had to face defeat in 2017 and 2022.
It is noteworthy that on June 27, AAP MLA from Tarn Taran Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal had passed away. Due to this, the Tarn Taran seat had become vacant, where by-elections will be held in 6 months. Due to this, preparations are being made by all the political parties for the by-election of the Tarn Taran assembly constituency. Today, Harmeet Singh Sandhu's joining of 'AAP' is also being seen in connection with the by-election.
