
District Advisory Committee meeting held on PC-PNDT Act.
Una, July 15- A meeting of the District Advisory Committee was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Una Dr Sanjeev Verma. In the meeting, the effective implementation of Pre-Conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act and its related activities were reviewed.
Una, July 15- A meeting of the District Advisory Committee was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Una Dr Sanjeev Verma. In the meeting, the effective implementation of Pre-Conception and Prenatal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act and its related activities were reviewed.
CMO Dr Sanjeev Verma said that at present a total of 27 ultrasound centers are functioning in Una district. Monthly reports are being received by the regional hospital on time from all the centers. He said that a clear list of names of the committee members has been displayed in all the ultrasound centers, so that transparency and accountability can be ensured.
He said that the PC-PNDT Act has also been linked to the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign, under which the Women and Child Development Department and the Health Department are jointly running various programs to make pregnant women aware.
Dr Verma said that special camps will be organized in every sub-division of the district to increase public awareness about the PC-PNDT Act. One camp will be held in the regional hospital while five camps will be held in different sub-divisions. Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers will be involved in these camps.
On this occasion, Health Medical Officer Dr Sukhdeep Singh Sidhu appealed to all the members present in the meeting that if they have any information about sex determination or any other type of irregularity in any ultrasound center, then immediately inform the District Medical Officer's office.
Complaints can be lodged in writing or on telephone number 01975-226064, on which prompt action will be ensured. He reiterated his commitment to run a strict campaign against sex selection and to make the society aware.
Paediatrician Dr Vikas Chauhan, Dr Narendra Thakur, Dr Pankaj Parashar, Gram Panchayat Dharampur's Pradhan Subhadra Chaudhary, Bathu's Pradhan Surekha Rana, Haroli's Pradhan Raman Kumari and other health officers and committee members were present in the meeting.
