Sharing information about this, Dr. Jagdeep Singh said that water was drained/emptied from the containers where mosquito larvae were found in the houses and larvicide was sprayed on the containers from which water could not be drained. Larvicide was also sprayed where mosquito larvae were found repeatedly.
Households were made aware to not allow water to accumulate in different types of containers like broken/drained cans, buckets, tyres, earthen pots, animal/bird drinking water pots, trays at the back of refrigerators and to empty empty, clean and dry coolers and other types of containers at least once a week. Talking about the above, they said that the lids of water tanks should not be broken or loose. If water is to be stored for different purposes, it should be tightly covered with a cloth so that mosquitoes cannot enter the container to lay eggs.
The Aedes mosquito that spreads dengue and chikungunya mainly bites during the day (especially in the morning and evening), so to avoid mosquito bites, one should wear full-length pants, full-sleeved shirts and socks, shoes to avoid mosquito bites, especially during outdoor activities, in parks, etc. Screened doors in houses should be kept closed.
Mosquito nets should be used for people sleeping outdoors. Therefore, all these precautions should be taken to prevent dengue and chikungunya and prevent its spread.
