Haryana is showing a rapid trend towards fish farming – Shyam Singh Rana.

Chandigarh, June 15 – Haryana’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Fisheries Minister Mr. Shyam Singh Rana said that people in Haryana are showing a rapid trend towards fish farming. At present, about 5900 acres of the brackish water state is being used for shrimp and fish farming, whereas in 2014-15, only 70 acres were used for fish farming.

Chandigarh, June 15 – Haryana’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Fisheries Minister Mr. Shyam Singh Rana said that people in Haryana are showing a rapid trend towards fish farming. At present, about 5900 acres of the brackish water state is being used for shrimp and fish farming, whereas in 2014-15, only 70 acres were used for fish farming.
Mr. Rana was addressing the Inland Fish Farming and Aquaculture Conference 2025 held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Commissioner Mrs. Amneet P. Kumar, Director of Fisheries Department Mr. Pal Rathi, District Fisheries Officer Sirsa Mr. Jagdish Chandra and two shrimp farmers from Sirsa district, Gurpreet Singh and Maya Devi, participated in this conference.
Fisheries Minister Shyam Singh Rana said that Haryana has become a fast growing state in the field of fish farming along with agriculture. Fish farming is not only becoming a source of employment in the state but is also playing an important role in increasing the income of farmers. Haryana is at the second position in terms of fish production per hectare among the inland states of the country.
Mr. Shyam Singh Rana said that under the Pradhan Mantri Fish Sampada Yojana of the Government of India, financial assistance of Rs. 203 crore has been given to 2719 beneficiaries in Haryana so far. The participation of women in this scheme has been particularly significant. The government is making rural women self-reliant through the Lakhpati Didi Yojana.
He said that about 5900 acres of brackish water land of the state is being used for shrimp and fish farming. White shrimp farming, which started in 70 acres in 2014-15, is now being done by farmers in 15 districts.
The Agriculture Minister said that in 2024-25, 52,392 acres of land were brought under fish farming, resulting in 2.16 lakh metric tonnes of fish production. The budget of the department was Rs 6.99 crore in 2014-15, which has now increased to Rs 214.76 crore in the current year.
He also said that Sirsa has been declared an aquaculture cluster, the project report of which is being sent to the Government of India. At the same time, a park is being built in 24.5 acres in village Garwa of Bhiwani, which will be inaugurated by the end of this year.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Fisheries Minister Shri Shyam Singh Rana informed that the government has increased the limit of solar energy subsidy from 10 kW to 30 kW, in which an assistance of Rs 9 lakh will be provided. Under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana, out of 2244 ponds, 444 ponds have been auctioned which will be used for fish farming. 
He informed that the Haryana Government has requested the Centre to increase the subsidy for shrimp farming from Rs 14 lakh per hectare to Rs 25 lakh per hectare and solar system and pond improvement should also be included in this scheme so that the farmers can benefit and their income can be doubled.
