The spokesperson said that action has been taken against the senior police officer after an investigation into the bribery case involving the four policemen. Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had announced the arrest of the four policemen on Tuesday. He had stressed on the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
The scam came to light when a Fazilka resident presented evidence to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the anti-corruption helpline against police personnel of Fazilka’s Cyber ??Crime Police Station who had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for settling a complaint related to the seizure of a minor’s phone.
Despite repeated attempts by the family to resolve the issue through legal means, they were finally forced to pay the bribe. The arrested officers include a Station House Officer (SHO), a reader and two constables.
