Nawanshahr- Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh on Tuesday directed the concerned departments to complete the ongoing flood prevention works within the stipulated time frame and also directed to set up control rooms at district and sub-division level for the convenience of the people. Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh reviewed flood protection preparations and arrangements in view of the upcoming monsoon season while discussing with senior officials at the district administrative complex. He emphasized that full attention should be paid to the cleaning of canals and desilting work and the Dhussi embankment should be strengthened on time as per the need.
He directed the SDM to ensure setting up of control rooms in time so that any flood-like situation can be dealt with properly. Ankurjit Singh said that the flood prevention plan should also be prepared in the next few days so that it can be implemented in the coming days. He said that the health officials will arrange for adequate stock of medicines and chlorination of water in advance if needed.
He said that a detailed plan should be made to shift people from flood-affected areas to safer places and to take the injured to hospitals providing all facilities. Regarding roads and bridges in flood-affected areas, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Mandi Board and Public Works Department officials to give priority to opening such roads and bridges in the shortest possible time so that people do not face any problem in commuting.
He asked the Powercom officials to repair electric poles and wires in the said areas while directing the Roadways officials to be ready to provide relief material in the flood-affected areas of the district if such a situation arises. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Verma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Avneet Kaur, SDM Anamjyot Kaur, SDM Inderpal, SDM Vipin Bhandari and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
