Patiala- Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has started grassroots efforts to make some members of educational institutions in every household in villages, towns and cities as helping angels for the victims. He has ordered the District Deputy Commissioner, Civil Surgeon, Medical Superintendent, Rajindra Hospital, District Education Officers and District Commander of Punjab Home Guard Civil Defence to impart training on disaster management, civil defence, first aid, CPR, ventilator artificial respiration, fire safety and rescue of victims through practice and mock drills to educational institutions, villages, police factory workers, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, Nehru Youth Club workers of the district through Disaster Management Civil Defence First Aid Fire Safety Trainer of Government of India Kaka Ram Verma who is a retired training supervisor of Indian Red Cross Society.
Because by giving first aid, CPR in the first 5/10 minutes during war, disasters and emergencies, victims can be saved from death. He said that in very critical situations when there is lack of transport facilities and hospitals are far away, these life saving training, exercises and mock drills prove to be very useful. While working as a training supervisor in the Red Cross Society from 1979 to 2012, Kaka Ram Verma trained lakhs of students, teachers, police factory workers, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and also prepared thousands of volunteers.
He also got mock drills conducted by the Red Cross along with Civil Defence in mohallas, colonies and villages during the 1971 war. As per the orders of DGP Punjab Police, he has gone to Patiala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Ropar and Mohali and given training in first aid, CPR and fire safety to the Road Safety Force personnel.
As per the orders of Education Minister Dr. Balbir Singh Ji, Director Principal Government Medical and Medical Superintendent Rajindra Hospital, all the students of Nursing College have also been given training in disaster management, first aid, CPR, care of the injured and fire safety through Kaka Ram Verma.
Even after retiring from Red Cross, Kaka Ram Verma is continuously running free training programs with selfless spirit. Kaka Ram Verma expressed his gratitude to the Health Minister, District Deputy Commissioner and the concerned officials and assured that he will keep trying to create more and more helpful angels in every home, family, community and institution.
