New Delhi, May 13- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today held a meeting with top military officials to review the security situation. The meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, Indian Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari and Defence Secretary RK Singh.
The meeting came a day after the Director General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held talks on the hotline where both sides agreed that they would “not fire a single bullet or initiate any aggressive or hostile action.”
However, within hours of the agreement between the two military officials, suspicious drones were spotted in some areas around Samba in Jammu and Kashmir and Suransi ammunition dump in Jalandhar. Officials said the army is in touch with them. The Army said, “Some suspicious drones have been spotted near Samba in Jammu and Kashmir. We are in talks. There is no need to panic.”
All this is happening at a time when several cities in Punjab, including Amritsar and Jalandhar, have faced blackout due to the threat of air strikes from the neighbouring country.
DGMOs India’s Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai and his Pakistani counterpart Major General Kashif Abdullah held talks around 5 pm on Monday. Citing the ongoing tension, the Army said the DGMOs agreed that “both sides should consider immediate measures to ensure reduction of troop numbers in the border and forward areas.”
