Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, along with the officials of the residents' association, inspected the spot and described the situation as pathetic and an insult to humanity. He said that the negligence shown by the company is highly condemnable.
He also questioned the performance of GMADA and Pollution Control Department, saying that the officials passed the maps without treatment plants, and people bought expensive plots and settled here. However, no arrangement was made for drainage of dirty water. He said that for such gross negligence, strict action should be taken against the company managers, GMADA and pollution control department officials.
Mr Bedi said that the situation on the spot is that dirty water from the sewers is being sucked through tankers and dumped in the open pit, which has created a big threat to the health of the population living near Chandigarh. He said that there is unbearable stench and terrible mosquitoes, and when the wind blows, people cannot even open the windows due to the stench.
He said that in case of power failure, people's houses become suffocating. He said that there are expensive schools nearby where a large number of children study, and the health of the residents in the entire area is being seriously affected.
