
128.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat procured from the mandis of the state – Harchand Singh Barsat
Mohali, 14 May 2025 – Rabi season 2025-26 has reached its final stage and the wheat procurement process is being completed rapidly in the mandis of the state. Due to the strong arrangements made in the mandis, 128.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured so far and the payment of the crop is also being made to the farmers in their bank accounts on time. This view was expressed by the Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, S. Harchand Singh Barsat.
Mohali, 14 May 2025 – Rabi season 2025-26 has reached its final stage and the wheat procurement process is being completed rapidly in the mandis of the state. Due to the strong arrangements made in the mandis, 128.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured so far and the payment of the crop is also being made to the farmers in their bank accounts on time. This view was expressed by the Chairman of Punjab Mandi Board, S. Harchand Singh Barsat.
Giving information in this regard, S. Barsat said that till now 129.17 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the mandis, out of which 128.91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured. 118.31 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured by government agencies, under which 37,92,512 metric tonnes have been procured by Pangrain, 2,98,637 metric tonnes by FCI, 31,06,814 metric tonnes by Markfed, 27,91,587 metric tonnes by Punsup and 18,41,144 metric tonnes by warehouses.
Along with this, 10,60,626 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured at private level. The chairman informed that so far 109.75 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been lifted from the mandis, while 19.16 lakh metric tonnes is yet to be lifted. Payment of Rs 27,573.83 crore has been made to the farmers. He informed that on 13th May, 44,184 metric tonnes of wheat arrived in the Mandis of the state and 46,319 metric tonnes of wheat was procured, while 3.12 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was lifted.
He said that the Punjab Government led by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, always stands with the farmers and strong arrangements have been made to run the wheat procurement operations smoothly in the Mandis of the state during the season. There are complete arrangements for cleanliness, drinking water, toilets, shade, seating arrangements etc. in the Mandis, so that farmers, commission agents, laborers do not face any kind of problem.
A total of 1865 permanent Mandis have been announced by the Mandi Board for the procurement of wheat, which include 152 main yards, 285 sub-yards and 1428 procurement centers. Along with this, 1028 temporary Mandis have also been established in view of the arrival of the crop. Harchand Singh Barsat thanked the commission agents, labourers, farmers, Mandi Board/Market Committees, various agencies and all the officers and employees who have contributed significantly in running the procurement operations in the Mandis smoothly.
