Chandigarh, May 1 - In order to implement the decision taken to release additional water to Haryana, the Bhakra Beas Management Board last night transferred Akashdeep Singh, Director (Water Regulation) of Bhakra Dam and appointed Sanjeev Kumar of Haryana as Director (Water Regulation) so that there is no obstacle in the way of releasing additional water. It may be recalled that Director Akashdeep Singh was adamant about releasing additional water to Haryana on the basis of Punjab's indent.
Sanjeev Kumar was earlier posted as Director (Dam Safety), now Akashdeep Singh of Punjab has been appointed in his place. BBMB has said in the orders issued that this transfer has been done on the request of Akashdeep Singh, while Akashdeep Singh has told BBMB through an email at around 12:45 last night that he has not made any such request. Punjab's Chief Engineer has written a letter to BBMB that the newly posted Sanjeev Kumar has experience only in dam safety while he has no experience in water regulation. He has demanded that this transfer be cancelled immediately.
