SAS Nagar, January 30, 2025:- Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs. Sonam Chaudhary ordered the urban local bodies to procure ambulance cum cattle theft vehicles for their respective areas during a meeting of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
While reviewing the activities of SPCA, ADC Chaudhary asked the urban local bodies to start animal birth control program to curb the stray dog ??population in their areas. He said that the concerned officers would be responsible for the increase in dog bite cases in case of delay in starting the program. Similarly, the Animal Husbandry Department was asked to increase the number of anti-rabies camps from one to two every month to administer anti-rabies medicine to stray dogs.
While taking stock of the infirmary being constructed at Lalru (Magra Cattle Pound), he directed Lalru MC to complete the construction of enclosures to keep sick and injured animals as soon as possible. He said that the enclosures should be constructed according to the species and size so that the animals do not face inconvenience while keeping them there. EO Lalru was also asked to transfer the title deed of the land under the infirmary in the name of SPCA. EO Lalru Gurbaksh Singh was also asked to get the slurry pits cleaned at Magra Cattle Pound to run the biomass based power generator at full capacity. This generator generates 10 KV electricity.
The meeting also discussed about starting animal birth control campaign in areas like Ecocity and Aerocity falling under the jurisdiction of GMADA and it was decided to write a letter to the Housing and Urban Development Department for this. Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Shivkant Gupta, representatives of urban local bodies and non-government members of the society attended the meeting.
