
On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Health Department organized an awareness seminar in the Engineering Department of Rayat Bahra College
Hoshiarpur- Under the guidelines of Health Department Punjab and Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra and under the leadership of District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Anita Kataria, the Media Wing, in collaboration with the Director Principal of the college Dr. Gurjeet Singh and Dr. Jyotsna and Red Ribbon Club, organized an awareness seminar for the students of the college in the Engineering Department of Rayat Bahra College on the occasion of World Cancer Day.

In which Medical Officer Dr. Kritika and Dental Surgeon Dr. Sandeep Damana from CHC Harta Badla, Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr. Tripta Devi, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, BEE Amandeep Singh and college staff and students participated from the Mass Media Wing. Inaugurating the seminar, the Director Principal of the college Dr. Gurjeet Singh welcomed the representatives of the Health Department, explaining the importance of Cancer Day.
Dr. Kritika Atri said that nowadays cancer cases are increasing, which have many reasons like polluted environment, our lifestyle, misuse of chemicals, excessive consumption of cigarettes, bidis and tobacco and lack of balanced diet etc. Cancer can occur in any part of the body. Cervical cancer and breast cancer are very common in women. Dental surgeon Dr. Sandeep Damana said that nowadays cancer of mouth, throat, tongue, lungs etc. is very common due to tobacco consumption. Symptoms of mouth cancer like ulcers in the mouth which are not healing for a long time, white spots in the mouth or bleeding from gums etc. can be cured by getting timely tests done and getting timely treatment.
Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr. Tripta Devi said that World Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated every year on 4 February. Its main objective is to spread awareness about cancer among people and provide them correct information about its symptoms, causes and treatment options. To prevent cancer, we should change our lifestyle and remain physically active. Deputy Mass Media Officer Mrs. Ramandeep Kaur said that for the treatment of cancer, the Punjab Government provides assistance of Rs. 1.5 lakh to the hospital related to the Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund. She also gave information about government and listed hospitals for the treatment of cancer.
