Hoshiarpur- To make farmers aware about paddy straw management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, a district level extension institute of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, organized an educational tour on direct seeding of wheat in paddy straw in village Bugra, adopted for paddy straw management.
During these exhibitions, direct seeding of wheat has been done using various techniques on the farm of progressive and award winning farmer Taranjit Singh of village Bugra so that the message of successful cultivation of wheat grown in straw managed fields with these techniques can reach more and more farmers. This is the second year of these exhibitions in Taranjit Singh's fields and he is satisfied with their performance. While interacting with the farmers, Dr. Maninder Singh Bauns, Joint Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, while describing the soil of the field as a storehouse of nutrients, said that we should not empty it by burning the straw, because one-third of the fertilizer is in the straw itself, which gets destroyed along with the straw by burning it.
He advised to keep the straw in the field itself, saying that this not only keeps the soil healthy, but also reduces the expenditure on fertilizer and the environment is also not polluted. Dr. Bauns also praised the progressive farmers of village Bugra, who have done complete management of paddy straw this year and due to these efforts, no case of burning of straw has been registered in the village. Apart from this, Dr. Bauns also shared important things about comprehensive pest management of Rabi crops.
On this occasion, various technical lectures were given by the experts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra to increase the knowledge of the farmers. Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur, Dr. Ajaib Singh gave detailed information about paddy straw management techniques. He gave detailed information about the use of displayed machinery for paddy straw management - Surface Seeder Technology, Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Super Seeder, Zero Drill. Associate Professor (Animal Science) Dr. Parminder Singh shared information on care of dairy animals and preparation of animal feed and Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) Dr. Karamveer Singh shared information on nutritious home gardens.
