MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa reached Karkor, Baroli and Amla on the second day of Nasha Niyamuna Yatra.

Dera Bassi (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar), May 17: In the series of Nasha Niyamuna Yatras that started yesterday across Punjab, MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa today met the Sarpanchs and residents of villages Karkor, Baroli and Amla on the second day and appealed to them to stay away from drugs, get the youth trapped in drug gangs around them treated and inform the police or administration about drug peddlers.

Dera Bassi (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar), May 17: In the series of Nasha Niyamuna Yatras that started yesterday across Punjab, MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa today met the Sarpanchs and residents of villages Karkor, Baroli and Amla on the second day and appealed to them to stay away from drugs, get the youth trapped in drug gangs around them treated and inform the police or administration about drug peddlers.
He said that the campaign launched against drugs in entire Punjab from February 24 has received a good response from the people and so far more than 11 thousand drug smugglers have been arrested and sent to jail.
MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa appealed to the people that any campaign started by the government can be successful only when people support it wholeheartedly. He said that if we really want to make Punjab a colorful Punjab and free from drugs, then we have to cooperate with the police and administration to eliminate the evil of drugs from the society.
He said that village security committees have been formed in every village, in which Panch and Sarpanch are also members. These committees also include local SHO, other officers of the health department and doctors. The purpose of the committees is to keep an eye on the consumption of drugs in any form in their village and if any victim comes forward, then he is to be given free treatment through the de-addiction centers opened by the government and help in his rehabilitation.
During the drug de-addiction yatra in village Karkor, while the villagers were given a collective message to stay away from drugs, cricket and volleyball sports kits were also presented to the youth of the village so that they can stay away from drugs and maintain their physical and mental health through sports. On this occasion, the birthday of DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar of Derabassi was also celebrated with the message of staying away from drugs.
During the drug de-addiction yatra in village Baroli, people were made aware and also sworn to stay away from drugs. While reviewing the progress of the playground being constructed in the village, the MLA directed the administrative officers present to complete the playground as soon as possible and hand it over to the youth of the village.
Today, when the Yatra reached its last stop in village Amlala, the people of the village, especially the women, expressed special gratitude to the Punjab Government for the exemplary action taken on April 28 to demolish the illegal structures related to drug smugglers.
People said that such strict action is necessary to curb drug smugglers, so that a fear is created in the society that drug smugglers will never be spared. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa also visited the playground of the village and interacted with the players present there and took their feedback and sought their full cooperation for the Punjab Government's campaign 'War against Drugs'. On this occasion, SDM Derabassi Amit Gupta, DSP Bikramjit Singh Barard, SHO Sumit Mor, SMO Dr. Dharminder Singh, Convener of “War on Drugs” campaign of Derabassi constituency Sumit Rana, Sarpanch of village Karkor Jasdeep Singh, Sarpanch of village Barauli Harvinder Singh and Sarpanch of village Amlala Narinder Singh, all Panchs, aware people and youth of these villages were present.
