Chandigarh, January 10, 2025- Today, on January 10, 2025, a lecture was organized by the Hindi Department, Punjab University, Chandigarh on the occasion of “World Hindi Day” on the topic “Folk Languages ??in the Global Environment”. In this program, Shri Ganesh Ghani (famous litterateur) and Dr. Ali Abbas (Professor, Urdu Department, Punjab University, Chandigarh) presented topic-based lectures as the keynote speakers. At the beginning of the program, the Head of the Department, Prof. Ashok Kumar formally welcomed the keynote speakers by presenting them with bouquets.
Giving a brief introduction of the keynote speakers, he said that today we associate languages ??with religions, which is unfortunate for literature. The subject matter of our lecture today has been prepared keeping this in mind and we have invited scholars of both Hindi and Urdu languages ??for the lecture. So that they present the soft inter-relationships between Hindi and Urdu before us.
Dr. Ali Abbas, while presenting his views, said that there is a deep relationship between Hindi and Urdu language, its structure is similar. Urdu language speakers tried more to connect themselves with Arabic and Persian and kept away from Hindi and Sanskrit literature. But today we can say that if Urdu speakers had more connection with Indian culture and languages ??here, then perhaps our literature would have been more rich. We are grateful to the Hindi Department who have tried to bring Hindi and Urdu on one platform.
The second keynote speaker of this program, Shri Ganesh Ghani, while speaking on folk and localness in language, said that today six thousand languages ??are spoken in the world. But it is a matter of concern for language lovers that every forty days one language is becoming extinct. The reason for which is that we are leaving our folk languages. There is a need to think about this. At the end of his lecture, Ganesh Ghani read one poem each from both his poetry collections (Wah Saanp Seedhi Nahi Khelta, Thoda Samay Nikal Lena).
After this, Dr. Pan Singh (Professor, Hindi Department, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla) recited the poem 'Do the mountains also cry?' Department student Narayan recited 'Manbhaavna Hindi' and Pawan recited 'Nark Is Jahan Ko Na Kahe To Kya Kahen' and won everyone's heart. At the end of the program, the Head of the Department, Prof. Ashok Kumar thanked the main speakers and the audience.
