Nawanshahr - In the nearby village Sujaun, Lohri of eight newborn daughters was celebrated in the memory of late Surinder Kaur (wife of Pyara Singh Thekedar). With the help of social service voluntary organization of the city, Ek-Noor voluntary organization Pathlawa and Upkar Coordination Society Nawanshahr, Lohri of eight daughters born last year was celebrated. In which each girl was presented with one hundred rupees and gifts by the said organizations.

The gathering included parents of newborn daughters, social workers, Anganwadi workers, bank officials and NRIs. Tarlochan Singh Pathlawa, Amarjit Singh Suranpuri, Balveer Singh U.K., Harjit Singh Jeeta, Prabhjot Pathlawa, Kulwinder Kaur Waria, Jasveer Kaur Waria, Sarabjit Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Lakhwinder Kaur, Sarika Soni and Upkar Society, JS Gidda, Surjit Kaur Dulku, Rajinder Kaur Gidda, Jyoti Bagga, Palwinder Kaur Badwal, Dr. Avtar Singh Denowal Kalan, Joga Singh Sadhra, Des Raj Bali and Lakhveer Singh were present.
The speakers appealed to give daughters equal opportunity to grow and flourish as sons. The speakers called for celebrating Lohri equally by both genders. Social service organizations were honored on this occasion.
