Chairperson of Punjab State Women's Commission addressed awareness seminar at Sri Guru Ram Das Nursing College

Hoshiarpur- Punjab State Women's Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill today addressed a seminar organized at Sri Guru Ram Das Nursing College and made the students aware of their rights. She said that the State Women's Commission is going to all the districts and making women aware of their legal and social rights.

She said that most of the women do not know about their rights nor do they know where to complain if they face harassment. She said that most of the complaints received by the State Women's Commission are related to domestic violence.
During this, the Chairperson of the State Women's Commission made the nursing students aware of their rights and also advised them to stay away from Western culture like live-in relationships. She said that the culture of our country is prosperous and we should adopt it in our lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Rahul Chaba while addressing the students said that the State Women's Commission is working very seriously towards the rights of women. He gave an example and explained that only a society progresses where women are respected.
Meanwhile, while SDM Sanjeev Kumar spoke about women's rights, Dr. Sukhbir Kaur from Swami Sarvanandgiri Regional Center Punjab University shed light on domestic violence and Indian judicial system. Chairperson of District Child Welfare Committee Harjit Kaur shared detailed information about Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act.
After the seminar, Chairperson of State Women's Commission Raj Lali Gill visited the Central Jail and interacted with women detainees and prisoners. While talking to reporters after the visit, she said that she got information about the medical facilities, bails and legal aid provided to women detainees and prisoners in the Central Jail.
She said that during this, some undertrial prisoners said that they have been in jail for three to four years and the hearing of their cases has not started yet. She said that the Women's Commission will take action on this issue.
