Nawanshahr: “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” was celebrated by Integrated and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Victims, Nawanshahr at Anganwadi Center No. 01, Saloh. Which was presided over by Mrs. Darshan Kaur (Sarpanch).
Addressing this seminar, Mr. Chaman Singh Project Director said that although kings and emperors were born from the womb of a woman, but even today our society is a patriarchal society. Despite the laws made for the protection of women, violence against them is not stopping.
The main reason behind this is the mentality of the society and the lack of solid laws. Be it democracy, monarchy or dictatorship, cases of violence against women and girls, crimes and human rights violations are seen everywhere. According to UN estimates, 736 billion women globally, or 1 in 3 women, have experienced physical or sexual violence or both at least once in their lifetime. Women and girls are victims of violence and harassment at home, at work and while travelling.
The UN observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November to create a safe society for women. Assam tops the list of crime rates against women. Everyone will have to work together to prevent cases of violence, harassment and human rights violations against women. Violence against women and girls goes unreported for many reasons. The main reasons for this include lack of adequate action against the perpetrators, lack of trust among the victims, silence of the victim and her family, stigma and shame.
After this, Ms. Kamaljit Kaur (Counselor) presented her views and said that even though women work for equality in every field, even today they have to face violence whether they do it or not. She presented a poem about the oppression of women and said that a woman should be strong in herself so that social evils and exploitation can be reduced.
After that, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur (Counselor) also presented her views and said that along with equality, we should also be aware of the incidents like dowry system or sexual exploitation so that crimes can be reduced or reduced. On this occasion, Mr. Deepak Chopra, a staff member, also presented his views and said that we should respect women so that people can understand their importance. Finally, Mrs. Harjit Kaur thanked the Red Cross team and said that such awareness is a very good step to stop violence against women.
On this occasion, Mrs. Darshan Kaur (Sarpanch) was also specially honored by the Integrated and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Victims, Nawanshahr.
