Hoshiarpur - An important meeting of the district level committee under the Narco Coordination Center (NCARD) mechanism was held today at the District Administrative Complex to review the ongoing campaign against drugs and discuss the forward action plan. This meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, while SSP Surendra Lamba was specially present. Officials of various departments including Police, Excise, School Education, Health, Sports, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Youth Services Department were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that not only the administration but all sections of the society need to play a role in the fight against drugs. We have to take such steps together, which not only prevent drug addiction, but also create public awareness against it. He instructed the officers present to continuously review the progress of the campaign against drugs in their respective departments and take more concrete steps in this direction. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal directed the SDMs to activate sub-divisional committees and conduct activities along with their police counter parts. He instructed all the departments to work with each other.
In the meeting, SSP Surendra Lamba highlighted the performance of the police department against drugs so far. He said that the district police has made continuous efforts to crack down on drug traffickers. Several drug traffickers have been arrested and strict action has been taken against them. He said that the police department is making all possible efforts to break the drug network and the public's cooperation is also very important in this. He said that all the police stations of the district have been instructed to conduct a public awareness campaign against drugs and involve every section of the society in it. SSP Surendra Lamba also emphasized that each department has to fulfill its responsibility, so that the district can be made drug free.
During the meeting, officials of various departments gave information about the steps taken by them against drug addiction. The police department shed light on the action taken against drug traffickers while the health department gave information about the status of drug free centers and their activities. The School Education Department gave information about the campaign launched to spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs among students.
