Nawanshahr- An anti-drug awareness camp was organized under the "Drug-Free India Campaign" by the Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Drug Victims, Nawanshahr at the Anganwadi Center of Soita village. This camp was presided over by Mrs. Amarjit Kaur (Sarpanch).
S. Chaman Singh (Project Director) while addressing the gathering and discussing the topic "War Against Drugs" said that the whole of India including Punjab has come under the grip of drugs in which now school going children and girls have also started getting addicted to drugs. That is why the governments have also put all their efforts to eliminate drugs from the country.
So all of us should pay special attention to our children and what they are doing. Because it has been seen that school going children do not have any knowledge about drugs, due to which they get addicted to drugs. We will now have to take care of our children ourselves, only then can we keep them away from drugs.
He made the youth aware of drugs and also explained in detail about the diseases caused by drug use. Sharing the country's statistics, he told the villagers how many young people have fallen into the trap of drugs. Parents should give time to their children and treat them like friends, and solve their problems.
He appealed to the village panchayat that if any person in the village is consuming drugs, then the panchayat should help him and get him admitted to the district's government drug de-addiction/Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Drug Victims in Nawanshahr, where patients are treated free of cost. He mentioned many incidents that many happy families have been destroyed due to drugs.
Mrs. Kamaljit Kaur (Councilor) also shared detailed information about the treatment of patients at the center that any drug addict can stay in the center for a month as per his wish and get free treatment.
On this occasion, Mr. Jaswant Pal (Panch) assured the villagers that if any youth of the village is addicted to drugs, the Panchayat will reach their house and get them admitted to the government drug de-addiction center. He thanked the Red Cross team and assured that they will continue to organize anti-drug awareness camps in the future as well.
On this occasion, Dilwar, Rakesh Kumari (Aganwadi Worker), Jasvir Kaur (Aanganwadi), Parveen Kumari, Kiran Jeet, Paramjeet, Surinder Kaur and other villagers were present.
