Chandigarh,18th May, 2024- In order to raise awareness regarding polling day and casting votes, a walkathon was organised on Saturday morning at Sukhna Lake by the Chief Electoral Officer, U.T. Chandigarh, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Program. More than 120 NSS volunteers from six different schools participated in the rally and raised the slogan related to 100 percent and ethical voting during the rally. Sh. Chandigarh, under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Program. Vijay N Zade, CEO, U.T., Chandigarh alongwith Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, District Election Officer, U.T., Chandigarh and Ms. Samaira Sandhu, State Icon, Chandigarh flagged off the rally. Sh. Vijay N. Zade, CEO, U.T. Chandigarh, encouraged young voters to participate in upcoming general elections and also inform them to inform their parents regarding polling day and to cast their vote Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, District Election Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, stated that all the facilities related to coping with the harsh weather, like water coolers, waiting rooms, rest rooms, shade, and the assistance of NSS volunteers, will be provided at all the polling stations in the city during the elections. He said that our main purpose is to increase voter turnout by informing everyone that each vote matters. Ms. Samaira Sandhu, State Icon, U.T., Chandigarh, appreciated efforts done by the Election Department, U.T., Chandigarh, in order to raise awareness regarding the importance of voting and polling day. She encouraged young voters by saying that casting a vote is not just our right but a responsibility too. It’s an essential factor for a healthy democracy. Among the other present during the event were Smt. Palika Arora, Nodal Officer, SVEEP –cum-Director Social Welfare and other officials of SVEEP. The polling day for Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency is June 1, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters may dial the toll-free voter helpline number 1950 for all electoral services and information.
