Chandigarh, September 11 - Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini today chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of the cleanliness drive programme in the state. The meeting discussed in detail the need to further strengthen the sanitation system in urban and rural areas, modernize the solid waste management system and make the campaign a mass movement through public participation. Urban Local Government Minister Mr. Vipul Goyal was also present in the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare a detailed action plan especially for Gurugram and Faridabad so that a permanent solution to the problem of solid waste disposal in these districts could be ensured. He said that modern technology and scientific methods should be used to take the cleanliness efforts to the ground.
It was decided in the meeting that waste-to-energy plants will be set up in Faridabad, Manesar and Gurugram, through which electricity will be generated by converting solid waste generated every day into energy. The work of setting up these plants will be started in the coming few months and these plants will be fully operational within the next 24 months. These waste-to-energy plants will have many benefits. These plants will generate electricity directly from waste, which will reduce the dependence on conventional energy sources like coal and petroleum. The electricity generated from here will be connected to the grid and the energy needs of the cities will be met. This will increase the clean energy generation capacity of Haryana and the state will move forward in the direction of continuous development. The operation and maintenance of these plants will also create large-scale employment and self-employment opportunities at the local level. This initiative will make Haryana a leader in the field of carbon emission reduction and environmental protection. In future, these plants will not only help Haryana in achieving the goals of the Swachhta Mission, but will also prove to be an inspiring model for other states.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct timely monitoring of the work and organize mass awareness activities on a large scale to connect the public with this process, so that people themselves can actively cooperate in self-monitoring and scientific management of waste.
The Chief Minister said that with these energy projects, not only the two districts will get a big relief in the direction of cleanliness, but also the Haryana city cleanliness campaign will get new momentum and strength. He also directed the officials to ensure transparency and timeliness in the implementation of the projects and the local corporations should play an active role in this direction.
Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that cleanliness is not limited to government programs only, but it is a social responsibility in which every citizen should play an active role. Municipal corporations will have to work responsibly and ensure that garbage is collected on time, dirt is not spread on roads and public places and drains are cleaned regularly.
The Chief Minister said that the municipal corporations that do better work should also be rewarded. He said that the government's goal is to make Haryana a leading state in the country in terms of cleanliness.
The goal is to make cities clean and beautiful under Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign - 2025
