
Special week celebrated to spread awareness about snake bites

Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Patiala Dr. Jagpal Inder Singh said that the Health Department celebrated a special week to spread awareness about snake bites. Under this, camps were organized in all health institutions of Patiala from September 15 to 19 to make people aware about snake bites.

Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Patiala Dr. Jagpal Inder Singh said that the Health Department celebrated a special week to spread awareness about snake bites. Under this, camps were organized in all health institutions of Patiala from September 15 to 19 to make people aware about snake bites.
He said that people get scared on snake bites and due to which the poison starts spreading rapidly in the body. He said that here we should act with a little courage and first aid should be given to the patient in the first 60 minutes of snake bites. In all cases, the patient should be calmed down on snake bites because fear increases the heart rate due to which the poison spreads rapidly in the body.
He said that the snake bite site should be kept stable and the snake bite site should be covered with a clean cloth. The wound should not be tied tightly. No kind of medicine, herbs, ice, oil or hot water should be used. Time should not be wasted in home treatment and the patient should be taken to the nearest civil hospital as soon as possible.
On this occasion, District Epidemiologist Dr. Divjot Singh said that after floods and due to the rainy season, it is common for snakes to come out of the caves. Due to which cases of snake bites are common in this season. He said that after a snake bite, call ambulance 108 immediately and take the patient to the hospital immediately. Neither should the bitten area be cut nor should the venom be tried to be extracted through the mouth. No kind of medicine should be used without medical advice.
He said that while going out in fields, forests and grassy areas, closed shoes, long boots and pants should be worn. While going out at night, always use a torch or mobile light. Avoid sleeping on the floor. Keep the surroundings of the house clean and the belongings in the house in order.
To reduce the number of snakes, grass and bushes should be cut near the houses. He further informed that anti snake venom for the treatment of snake bites is available at Rajindra Hospital, Mata Kushlia Hospital and Sub Divisional Hospitals Nabha, Samana, Rajpura, 24X7 Community Health Centers. Its treatment is provided free of cost in government hospitals.
