Farmers advised not to depend only on DAP SAS Nagar, November 2, 2024: District Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Gurmel Singh said that four options of DAP are available in the market for wheat sowing, so farmers have been advised not to depend on DAP alone and urged to adopt these options.
Citing Dr. Gobindar Singh, Soil Chemist, Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University, the Chief Agriculture Officer said that single superphosphate contains 16 percent phosphorus. Three bags of this fertilizer can be used in place of one bag of DAP. Apart from this, it also provides additional sulfur. Similarly, NPK 12:32:16 contains 32 percent phosphorus. One and a half bag of NPK 12:32:16 is equivalent to one bag of DAP.
It also provides the additional benefit of potash, which is not present in DAP. He further informed that triple superphosphate contains 46 per cent phosphorus and can be used in the same quantity as DAP, thereby providing the benefit of additional sulphur, while NPK 10:26:26 contains 26 per cent phosphorus of the total mixture and can also meet the phosphorus requirements of the crop. It also provides the additional benefit of potash, which is not present in DAP.
He assured the farmers not to worry about the shortage of DAP and stressed that these effective and easily available alternatives can be used successfully. He asked the farmers to contact the Chief Agriculture Office, District Administrative Complex, Mohali or Block Agriculture Officers at the local level for any further information.
