'Thank you government...good seeds are available at doorstep'

The Himachal government's initiative of supplying quality seeds at their doorsteps is proving to be very beneficial for the farmers engaged in preparations for the Rabi season in Una district. This has not only facilitated the farmers of the district in preparing for the Rabi crop, but has also increased the possibility of improvement in agricultural production.

The Agriculture Department is engaged in providing seeds to the farmers at their doorsteps through its sales centers in the district, as well as ensuring adequate availability of better quality seeds at cheap prices in registered societies, so that the farmers can carry forward the farming work without any hassle in the Rabi season.
 Kulbhushan Dhiman, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Una, said that 13,000 quintals of wheat seeds were demanded in Una district for this Rabi season, out of which 9,000 quintals of seeds have already been distributed. The remaining seeds will be made available in all the blocks by this week. 
He said that
Distribution of wheat seeds of improved varieties like DBWD 303, PBWD 343, DBWD 187, DBWD 222 and UPBW 550 is being ensured to the farmers in all the blocks. Breeder HS 562 seeds have been ordered from outside the state which will be planted on the farms of the Agriculture Department and will also be distributed to the farmers. Apart from this, wheat seeds are also being purchased by the farmers through private dealers in the district.
In the last Rabi season, financial assistance of about Rs 4 crore was given to the farmers along with providing 14,000 quintals of wheat seeds.
Apart from this, the agriculture department has also distributed 600 quintals of fodder along with vegetable seeds like radish, spinach, fenugreek, coriander, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, turnip and onion to the farmers, which will provide farmers with an additional source of income and increase their crop diversity. This effort will strengthen the economic condition of the farmers.

Be sure to treat the seeds before sowing
The Deputy Director has appealed to all the farmers to treat the seeds before sowing wheat so that the risk of diseases in the crop can be reduced. For this purpose, the department has also distributed a medicine called Bavishtan along with the seeds. He said that farmers should select fields with suitable moisture for sowing, so that the germination of seeds can be better. Apart from this, exhibitions are being organized at the block level from time to time by the departmental officials so that farmers can be given information about seasonal crops and vegetables.

Farmers expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister
The farmers of the district have expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu for the easy availability of quality seeds. Progressive farmer Jaswinder Singh of Fatehpur says that along with wheat seeds, farmers are getting other farming related material through society and block. This has provided great convenience to all. Hansraj of Kotla Khurd and Kamlesh of Rampur say that the facility of getting the required seeds at their doorstep has made farming easier and more accessible for them than before. Everyone has unanimously expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and the Agriculture Department for this better arrangement.
