Nayagaon: In broad daylight, the robber came to a goldsmith's shop in the city with a hammer and broke the glass counter and stole about 15 gold chains kept in it. Fortunately, during this time the robber also attacked the shopkeeper with a hammer but the shopkeeper was saved due to his presence of mind.
The entire robbery incident was captured in the CCTV installed at the shop. After which the people of the nearby market called the police control room and the police arrived within a few minutes, investigated the spot and took the CCTV footage with them.
The robbery incident took place at 2 pm on January 16. Ashwani, owner of Bhola Jeweller of Shiv Shakti Market on Church Road in Ward No. 1 of the city, said that the person who committed the robbery had been coming to his shop for two-three days continuously and on the first day he was talking about buying a ring for his wife. The next day he came to buy the ring and sat at the shop for a long time. Now they understood that the robber had noticed that the nearby shops are closed in the afternoon.
That is why he chose the afternoon on Thursday on the pretext of getting the ring smaller. This time he had tied a cloth on his face and was wearing a turban. He suddenly took out a hammer from inside his jacket and seeing the shopkeeper alone, he caught him by the throat. During this time the shopkeeper rang the safety hooter installed at the shop.
Hearing the sound, the robber broke the glass counter with a hammer and stole the gold chains weighing about 15 tolas kept in it. The market value of the looted gold is being told to be around 12 lakhs.
