Patiala- Born on May 12, 1820, in an ordinary family in the city of Florence, Italy, Nightingale had a passion for serving the suffering and especially the soldiers since childhood.
Her parents would take her to church, but she would go outside the church to talk and serve the poor people sitting there. At schools, students were given information about humanitarian activities, which further strengthened her thoughts and feelings. At that time, only men served patients as nurses in hospitals.
After completing her schooling, she enrolled in a nursing school in Germany and obtained a nursing degree, experience, practice and the qualities, knowledge, feelings, thoughts and habits of a good nurse. Meanwhile, when the war between some countries started in Crimea, Turkey from 1853 to 1856, she took other nurses with her and, with the blessings of the Queen of England, started working day and night to take care of the wounded soldiers. She went to hospitals and first aid stations and started doing the work of nursing by giving the soldiers ointments, medicines, encouraging them and giving them encouragement.
As the number of wounded soldiers kept increasing, she would carry a lamp and first aid box in her hands even at night, due to which she became famous as A LADY WITH THE LAMP. The soldiers did not call her a nurse, but rather called her Sister SISTER with love and respect. Since then, nurses have been given the honor of being Sisters. After the war, she also started a nursing college where girls and boys were trained in nursing and school students were trained in home nursing. Due to illness, she left the world on 13 August 1910. She was honored as the Messiah of the Victims by the country and abroad and the International Red Cross. To honor her, she was named after her city, Florence Nightingale.
Her desire was that students, especially girls, should be trained in home nursing so that they can continue to provide home nursing services to the elderly, the injured, the disabled or patients discharged from hospitals, in their homes and families during wars and disasters. And during emergencies, the nurses of the country should become the helping angels. At present, ANM, GNM and BSC nursing courses are conducted in the country and the world. Like MD or DM doctors, nurses are also being made specialist nurses because various terrible diseases, disasters and wars are increasing in the country and the world.
So, for proper treatment and nursing care of the victims, there is a greater need for expert nurses along with expert doctors because as per the instructions of the doctors, the care of the patients by the nurses, TPR, input output, physical, mental, social changes, food, water, air, exercise, yoga, laughter, happiness, cleanliness from head to toe, beds, clothes, room, mental balance, satisfaction, gratitude, courage etc. are very important, for which all the work is done by the nurses.
The International Red Cross Society has given international honors to Bhai Ghanhiya Ji, Mr. Jean Henry Dunant and Florence Nightingale for taking the training of first aid and home nursing to every door of the world, for which the states and district branches are responsible for providing training of first aid and home nursing to the students, junior or youth Red Cross activities. At present, the training activities of first aid and home nursing are coming to an end in India and Punjab. In today's time, various terrible diseases, traffic accidents, natural and human disasters, wars, conflicts, hatred, arrogance, arrogance, violence and looting are increasing.
Only first aid, CPR, ventilator, artificial respiration and home nursing will prove to be very useful to save the victims during emergencies because hospitals and roads can also be destroyed during wars. Fast food, junk food, cold drinks, drugs, haste, lack of understanding, lack of exercises, sports and sports competitions, excessive running, restlessness, carelessness, health, well-being, health, brotherhood, cooperation, love, respect, respect and compassion are being lost. Due to which countless children, youth, parents and elders are suffering from diseases in hospitals, homes, religious places, old age homes, Pingalwadis etc.
Doctors prescribe medicines, but there is a great need for relatives to provide first aid and home nursing to the patients at home to cure them physically, mentally, socially and economically. Therefore, there is a great need to start first aid home nursing training programs at educational institutions to provide first aid and home nursing in every family. Calling professional nurses to take care of patients at home means paying a salary of 15000 to 25000 rupees per month to the nurse, while the nurse goes home after doing duty for 8/10 hours.
The rest of the time, it becomes the responsibility of the family members to take care of the patients. Considering the increasing incidents of accidents, fires, gases, electricity, petroleum incidents, wars, etc. in the country and the world, by preparing members in every family as first aid home nursing, the happiness, prosperity, respect and financial conditions of the families can be improved.
