Una, December 5 - Under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme run by the Agriculture Insurance Company, the crops of potato growers of 2 blocks Una and Haroli of the district will be insured till December 31. Giving information in this regard, Deputy Director of Agriculture Dr. Kulbhushan Dhiman said that the premium amount payable by the farmer for potato crop is Rs 250 per kanal and the insured amount is Rs 5000/- per kanal. He said that if any farmer wants to get his potato crop insured, he will visit his nearest Lok Mitra Center with necessary documents like Aadhaar card, bank passbook, land charge and crop sowing certificate. Apart from this, it will be mandatory for the farmers cultivating potatoes by taking land on contract to get an affidavit made.
Dr. Kulbhushan Dhiman said that last year too, the company provided a good claim to the farmers of the district for the Kharif crop, which was deposited directly into the accounts of the farmers. He said that this amount has been given almost 5 times more than the premium paid by the farmer. He said that 436 potato growers across the district were provided an insurance amount of Rs 1.60 crore in lieu of a premium of Rs 34.30 lakh.

He informed that the total insured amount of wheat crop has been fixed at Rs 60 thousand per hectare, premium at 12 percent (total amount Rs 7200 per hectare). 15 percent amount (Rs 900 per hectare, Rs 36 per kanal) will be borne by the farmer. The remaining amount will be compensated by the government as a grant. He said that under the scheme, it will provide protection against losses due to non-performance of sowing/planting operations due to less rainfall or adverse weather conditions in the insured area. Post-harvest loss insurance is provided for two weeks in case of cyclone and cyclonic rains and unseasonal rains.
