New Delhi: Former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty appeared before the ED (Enforcement Directorate) on Monday for questioning in a money-laundering case related to an alleged illegal betting app.
The statement of the 36-year-old Chakraborty is being recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in a case related to an "illegal" betting app called '1xBet'.
The former MP and actress is likely to be associated with the app through some publicity and financial transactions. The ED wants to know her links with the app during questioning.
The agency is investigating cases related to several such illegal betting apps, which are accused of defrauding people and investors of crores of rupees or evading taxes on a large scale. The central probe agency has already questioned former cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan in the case. The ED has also asked actress Urvashi Rautela (31) and Bengali actor Ankush Hazra to appear in the case on Tuesday.
More sportspersons and celebrities are expected to be questioned by the agency in the coming days. The central government has also recently brought a law banning real-money online gaming.
