Chandigarh Cyber Police Arrests Man in Fake Customer Care Fraud

Chandigarh, September 8– The Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh, has arrested a 25-year-old man from West Bengal in connection with a fake Google customer care fraud in which a city resident was duped of ?3.9 lakh.

Chandigarh, September 8– The Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh, has arrested a 25-year-old man from West Bengal in connection with a fake Google customer care fraud in which a city resident was duped of ?3.9 lakh.
The accused, Imran Ansari, was traced after police tracked the fraudulent transaction to his IndusInd Bank account. He admitted to opening the account for another person in exchange for a ?3,000 commission. A mobile phone was recovered from him.
The case was registered on the complaint of Om Parkash, who was tricked into sharing his email and password after calling a fake customer care number he found on Google while trying to fix a Disney Hotstar subscription issue.
The operation was led by SP-Cyber Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, with support from DSP A. Venkatesh and SHO Inspector Eram Rizvi.
Police urged citizens to use only official apps/websites for subscriptions, avoid relying on random Google numbers, and report frauds to helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
