Chandigarh- Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema has appealed to the Central Government to show sensitivity towards Punjab in the same way it is sending humanitarian aid to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. He questioned the Central Government that relief material was sent to Afghanistan immediately, but why is there a delay in providing financial and humanitarian assistance to flood-hit Punjab.
Finance Minister Cheema asserted that Punjab, which has consistently contributed to the country’s food security and economic strength, should get immediate and adequate assistance in its hour of need. If humanitarian aid can be sent across borders, then why is there hesitation in helping our own people, he questioned.
Finance Minister Cheema urged the Centre to prioritize the welfare of flood-affected citizens and expedite relief packages, infrastructure support and rehabilitation work. He also appealed to the people to donate generously to the Chief Minister Relief Fund to help the flood-affected people. He assured that all the assistance received would be spent with transparency and accountability so that every rupee reaches the needy.
