Chandigarh: 9 July 2025- It is clear from the ongoing phenomenon of police encounters in Punjab, ransoms in the name of gangsters and murders of prominent people, deaths in police custody and shooting of arrested youth in the legs and arms that all this is being done with the aim of establishing a police state in Punjab.
The above ideas emerged during the discussion on the current situation in the meeting of the state office bearers of the Punjab Human Rights Organization held today under the chairmanship of former Justice Ranjit Singh. The statement issued by the organization's Office Secretary Dr. Khushal Singh said that it seems that Punjab is being pushed back towards the suffering it had previously suffered due to government coercion.
Instead of controlling gangsterism through constitutional and rule of law, a terror atmosphere of the rule of the jungle is being created. The story of arresting and killing in an encounter the youth who allegedly helped the murderers of a prominent businessman in Abohar seems suspicious at first glance.
The statement also expressed concern over the silence of the anti-government political parties and public organizations in Punjab instead of taking such atmosphere and incidents seriously, while the reality is that the government is dealing with the agitation and different opinions on every issue with the force of the police baton.
The statement emphasized on this issue that the responsibility of the police is to take the law into their own hands, investigate and hand over all kinds of criminals who commit crimes like murder and extortion to the courts for justice and punishment, and not to give punishments themselves.
The Punjab Human Rights Organization has appealed to all Punjabis to unite and oppose these signs of police state and protect human rights and freedom of thought. Vice-Chairman Dr. Piara Lal Garg, General Secretary Malvinder Singh Mali, Organizing Secretary Hamir Singh also attended the meeting.
