Garhshankar- CPI(M) State Secretariat Member and District Secretary Hoshiarpur issued a statement to the press saying that privatisation of Punjab State Electricity Board has started showing its effect. People visit offices for months for their departmental work, but nothing happens to them.
New and repair works of electricity have been handed over to private contractors. JE, HDU and XEN seem helpless in front of these contractors. The officers who earlier used to get the work done by giving orders to the lower officials, today they wait for the order of the contractor. When the contractor is asked about the work, he makes an excuse of lack of labour.
The Punjab government does not get tired of announcing jobs every day and then who are these job seekers? The government employees working in the department do not even wear masks. Under this system, people are being looted and the way for corruption is being opened safely. The government should recruit permanent employees to prevent inconvenience to the people. People should mobilize to start a struggle against privatization.
