On this occasion, Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that as per the directions of Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and Director Dr. Hitinder Kaur, various awareness programs are being conducted by the Punjab Government from May 17 to June 17 regarding hypertension. 
In this regard, special screening camps for people above the age of 30, awareness rallies, street plays, lectures in schools and colleges, awareness is being created through media and social media. Under the National Program for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases, free medicines are being given to the needy after checking blood pressure.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that blood pressure can be kept under control only by making changes in lifestyle. Therefore, it is very important to be aware. She said that every citizen above the age of 30 should get their blood pressure checked regularly. 
She said that we should consume a balanced diet by avoiding the use of alcohol and tobacco products, fat, fried and spicy foods. By consuming only green leafy vegetables, fruits and low-fat foods and by exercising daily, blood pressure can be kept normal to a large extent.

Puneet said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to make the general public aware about the harms of hypertension, which is also known as high blood pressure in common parlance, so that people can be protected from diseases like heart attack, stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, loss of eyesight etc. due to high blood pressure.
