Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, while reviewing drug prevention and awareness measures under the 'Nashe Par War' campaign in the district, said that the district administration will take necessary action by conducting a weekly review of the steps being taken to prevent drug abuse.
While holding a meeting with the officials of the concerned departments at the local district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik said that curbing drug abuse and taking strict action against those who spread this evil is the main priority. He said that due to the acceleration in the campaign against drug abuse and the active role of the concerned departments, the number of people quitting drug abuse has increased.
He said that during the last few months, the number of patients in drug rehabilitation and de-addiction centers has increased, which is the result of efforts being made to curb drug abuse. He said that the concerned SDM and DSP would visit the de-addiction centres under their jurisdiction at least twice a month and through interaction with the patients admitted there motivate them to be more aware about drug abuse and lead a healthy life. He said that these officers would also provide necessary information to the district administration about the process, infrastructure and facilities of the de-addiction centres so that necessary improvements could be implemented. To spread awareness at the grassroots level about the ill-effects of drug abuse, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP said that special seminars, camps and contact meetings would be organized with the full participation of concerned departments, social organisations, self-help groups, Gram Panchayats, students etc. so that the campaign against drug abuse could be implemented smoothly.
