New Delhi, March 19- The Supreme Court will hear on April 16 the petitions challenging the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners under an Act of 2023. It is worth noting that this matter was earlier scheduled to be heard today. Advocate Prashant Bhushan had sought an urgent hearing.
Bhushan, appearing for an NGO, told the court that this matter is listed at number 38 for hearing and it does not seem possible to hear it today. After this, a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotishwar Singh fixed April 16 as the next date of hearing. Bhushan, while seeking an urgent hearing, had argued that this is an issue related to the roots of democracy and falls under the judgment delivered by the Constitution Bench in 2023.
Justice Kant said that the court understands all these arguments, but many important issues are being listed for hearing every day. "We fix the date of April 16, so that the final hearing on this matter can be held," the bench said.
