
Provide maximum loans to self-help groups: Deputy Commissioner
Hoshiarpur- Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain today asked all the banks of the district to provide maximum loans to self-help groups so that these institutions can become stronger. She said that the youth who have received vocational training should also be informed about the loans required for setting up various works so that they can take loans and start their respective work.

Expressing satisfaction over the rate of priority sector loans by the banks, the Deputy Commissioner said that instead of 40 percent fixed by the banks, 57.42 percent loans have been provided in the district and the total priority and non-priority sector loans have been 84.73 percent, which is commendable.
During the quarterly meeting held for the review of various banks in the local district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that banks should provide information to the people about various loans, especially farmers, youth, domestic and government related schemes, so that they can take proper advantage of these loans.
She said that maximum loans should be made available to poor families under DRI interest rate, so that they can become financially strong as well as improve their standard of living.
She said that banks should also provide the benefits of government-run programs including Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana to eligible beneficiaries. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that loans should also be made available to new small and big industries and industrial units in the district within the stipulated time frame, which will create employment opportunities for the youth along with industrial development in the district.
She assured the banks that the district administration will provide all possible cooperation for the activities related to the banks, so that the benefits of the schemes of the state government and the central government can be reached to maximum number of people. During this, District Lead Manager Chetan Joshi and RBI LDO Sanjeev Singh provided necessary information to the Deputy Commissioner about the performance of various banks.
He informed that till December 2024, loans worth Rs 7286.91 crore were provided in the district, out of which Rs 4831.53 crore belong to the priority sector and Rs 2455.38 crore belong to the non-priority sector. NABARD DDM Rajat Chhabra and other concerned officials were present on this occasion.
