Hoshiarpur, February 17 - Under Mission Punjab Smile 2.0, the district administration has started a counseling and awareness campaign through help desks at public places with the aim of making people aware about the ill effects of drugs and providing information for de-addiction.
Today, under the campaign, the District Drug Rehabilitation Society set up a help desk in the local new District and Sessions Court premises and informed more than 70 people about the harm caused to health and society by drugs.
Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajpal Rawal inaugurated the help desk at the new District and Sessions Court premises and called upon the people present to unite against the evil of drug addiction and work to eradicate it from its roots. He said that the De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center is running successfully in the district, where drug addicts are treated and motivated to lead a healthy life.
He said that these help desks will be set up at various public places in the district till February 28, where experts will make people aware and provide necessary information. Psychiatric social worker Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur said that this campaign will continue till February 28, during which people will be made aware and those who are trapped in the trap of drugs will be given information about de-addiction and treatment.
He said that in the District De-addiction Rehabilitation Center started in the year 2015, along with getting rid of addiction, proper arrangements are also being made for training of vocational courses, so that the affected people can quit addiction and start their own business.
On this occasion, Advocate Ranjit Singh President District Bar Association Hoshiarpur, Rajinder Moudgil NGO, Counselor Prashant Adia, Psychiatric social worker Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, Amit Kumar etc were also present.
