
Grant of Rs 8.5 lakh approved to NSS, Punjab University for environmental education programme
Chandigarh, January 17, 2025: A grant of Rs 8,50,000 has been approved by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The grant will fund activities under the Environmental Education Programme (EEP 2024-25) implemented by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, January 17, 2025: A grant of Rs 8,50,000 has been approved by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The grant will fund activities under the Environmental Education Programme (EEP 2024-25) implemented by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The project will be led by Principal Investigators (PIs) Dr. Parveen Goyal, Prof. Rajat Sandhir and Dr. Sonia Sharma. It aims to promote environmental awareness and sustainability through hands-on activities and capacity building initiatives.
The major activities planned under EEP 2024-25 are LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) skill development; Practical capacity building workshops and demonstrations focused on waste utilization in landfills, water conservation through drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, etc., curbing single-use plastic (SUP), waste management through composting, vermicomposting, and generating sustainable alternative livelihoods from waste biomass.
These activities are designed to promote sustainable practices among students and volunteers, empowering them to contribute meaningfully towards environmental conservation.
Speaking about the initiative, Principal Investigator Dr. Parveen Goyal emphasized that the project will strengthen the commitment of NSS towards environmental conservation in the affiliated colleges of Panjab University in Punjab. She said, “This program enables NSS volunteers to engage in impactful activities that contribute to making the earth a better place to live.”
