Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, December 11, 2024: As per the instructions of Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, District Legal Services Authority in association with Quark City India Private Limited, Industrial Area, Phase-8, Mohali organized an awareness program on the topics of ‘Your Journey, Your Life, Your Responsibility Safe Drive, and Stay Safe’ and ‘Free Legal Aid’.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, December 11, 2024: As per the instructions of Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, District Legal Services Authority in association with Quark City India Private Limited, Industrial Area, Phase-8, Mohali organized an awareness program on the topics of ‘Your Journey, Your Life, Your Responsibility Safe Drive, and Stay Safe’ and ‘Free Legal Aid’.
Addressing the gathering, Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, motivated the employees to stay away from drugs and made them aware about the legal rights of drug addicts and their right to get free legal aid. He further informed that the Legal Services Authorities are committed to taking the victims of drug addiction to rehabilitation centers so that they can get rid of this problem and join the mainstream as responsible citizens.
Mr. Krishan Kumar Singla, Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority disclosed that members of Scheduled Castes or Tribes, women, children, mentally ill, disabled, unemployed, industrial workers, persons in custody, persons lodged in jails and prisoners and all those persons whose annual income is less than 3 lakhs are entitled to get free legal aid. He also informed that free legal aid includes free services of lawyers in courts, free legal advice, court fees, summons fees and witness expenses etc. are borne by the District Legal Services Authority. He explained the old and new provisions under IPC and BNS respectively related to the penal provisions of Motor Vehicle Act in relation to general traffic violations. Mr. Karnail Singh, DSP (Traffic), SAS Nagar while informing about the new traffic rules said that if any child below the age of 18 years drives a vehicle. Then his parents can be imprisoned for three years and a fine of up to Rs. 25,000/-. Apart from this, if a person allows a child below the age of 18 to drive a vehicle, then he is also a party to the punishment. He also motivated the gathering to help the injured persons in road accidents.
Surabhi Parashar, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar said that under the Punjab Victim Compensation Scheme, 2017, compensation can be given to the victims where the offender is not found, missing or unknown. But the victim is identified and where no trial is going on and the victim has to bear the expenses and mental rehabilitation.
Gurcharan Singh, Faculty, CDTI, MHA also made people aware about cyber laws. He said that to strengthen the mechanism for comprehensive and coordinated handling of cyber crimes, the Central Government has taken steps for spreading awareness about cyber crimes, capacity building training of law enforcement personnel, prosecutors.
