
Timely testing and treatment of congenital disorders is mandatory: Chief Medical Officer
Una, October 22 - The Health and Family Welfare Department, District Una organized a one-day re-training program on timely detection, early management and referral of congenital disorders found in newborns at the District Hospital today. The program was presided over by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Una, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Verma. He said that if congenital disorders are not detected on time and treated properly, then these disorders can become incurable. Such training programs prove to be an important step in improving the health of newborns and strengthen the efforts for prevention and management of congenital disorders.

In this training program, Dr. Manmeet Saini, Pediatrician of CH Haroli, gave detailed information on the examination of newborns, birth defects found in them, their early management and referral. Pediatricians, gynecologists, other doctors and staff nurses from various hospitals of the district also participated in this one-day re-training program.
Explaining the process of foetal development, Dr Saini said that it is very important to examine the newborn from head to toe immediately after birth, so that commonly found congenital disorders can be detected. These disorders include serious diseases like brain and spinal cord disorders, cleft lip, cleft palate, club foot and hole in the heart. Timely identification of these disorders and proper treatment can improve the quality of life of the child. Apart from this, he also stressed on the importance of counselling of parents affected by congenital disorders.
On this occasion, DPO CH, Dr. Richa Kalia said that under the National Child Health Program, 10 mobile health teams are working in Una district, which are providing services in rural and remote areas. Apart from this, a District Early Intervention Center has also been established in the District Hospital Una. In this center, children aged 0-18 years are treated for congenital disorders. If any child is suffering from these disorders, he can come to the Intervention Center located in Room No. 115 A of the District Hospital Una and get advice and treatment.
