Jwalapur alias Ultpur where elections for Sarpanch have never been held since 1959

Patiala, October 5 - Election Observer deputed by Punjab State Election Commission for Patiala district and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Bathinda Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa today visited villages and reviewed the ongoing process of Panchayat elections. He reached village Jwalapur alias Ultapur in Block Bhunrehri, which is the only village in Punjab in which no election has been held since the inception of Panchayati Raj on 2 October 1959.

Patiala, October 5 - Election Observer deputed by Punjab State Election Commission for Patiala district and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Bathinda Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa today visited villages and reviewed the ongoing process of Panchayat elections. He reached village Jwalapur alias Ultapur in Block Bhunrehri, which is the only village in Punjab in which no election has been held since the inception of Panchayati Raj on 2 October 1959.
He interacted with the villagers and appreciated their initiative and said that their village has shown the way to other villages by conducting elections unanimously. The villagers informed that this time they have unanimously elected Simar Singh as the Sarpanch of the village. After this Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa reached Mahmoodpur village, where the villagers unanimously elected Satwant Singh as the Sarpanch.
The Election Observer appreciated the residents of these villages and said that such villages will continue to show the way to other villages. He ordered all the Returning Officers to ensure that the entire process of the general election of Gram Panchayats to be held on October 15 is conducted in a fair, transparent and smooth manner.
