Garhshankar - As per the guidelines of District Program Officer Hardeep Kaur and as per the guidelines of CDPO Garhshankar Manju Bala, a block level function was organized to celebrate the birth of new born girl child under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme. The event was organized at Guru Sewa College of Nursing, Panam Garhshankar. The Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha attended the program as the chief guest.
 The function began with the chief guest planting saplings in the name of the new-born girls, which is a symbol of life. After this, the birth of baby girls was celebrated by cutting a cake and the society was made aware about this important initiative. In his address, the Deputy Speaker emphasized on social security, equality, education and birth rights of girls. He said that the Punjab government is committed to the development of girls and continuous work is being done in this direction.
He urged the society to change its thinking towards women and said that girls should be encouraged in every field. On this occasion, 10 mothers of newborn girls were honored and 5 daughters who excelled in the field of sports and education were specially honored.
In the program, rangolis were made to represent the rights of girls and dishes that can be prepared at home at low cost were also exhibited. An inspiring skit was presented by the students of Guru Sewa College of Nursing with the message of ending gender discrimination. Apart from this, Anganwadi workers presented Giddha while raising awareness about Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Poshan Abhiyaan.
