The incident took place at a BSF camp in Dhulian of the district at around 10.30 pm on Saturday night, officials said. Constable Shivam Kumar shot dead his senior, Havildar Ratan Singh Shekhawat, with his service rifle after a heated argument, officials said. The accused constable has been arrested, they said.
They said both the personnel were posted in the same BSF unit, which was deployed in the area after the recent communal clashes in Murshidabad. The BSF has ordered a 'Court of Inquiry' and the exact reasons for the incident are being ascertained, the officials said.
56-year-old Shekhawat was recruited into the BSF in 1989 and was posted in the force's 119th battalion. The officials said Shekhawat was a resident of Jaipur in Rajasthan and is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son. The officials said the accused also belongs to the same battalion.
