Excise and Taxation Department, UT Chandigarh issues instructions regarding 01 June Chandigarh Lok Sabha Elections

The Excise and Taxation Department, UT Chandigarh has issued instructions under Section 135C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, that no spirituous, fermented or Intoxicating Uquor or other substances of like nature shall be sold, given or distributed at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or any other place, public or private, within a polling area during the period of forty-eight hours ending with the hours fixed for the conclusion of poll for any election in the polling area.

In view of the polling date of 01 June, 2024 In U.T., Chandigarh, 'Dry day' has been declared and notified from 6 pm on 30.5.2024 to 6 pm on 01.06.2024 vide order of ETC dated 06.04.2024. In terms of the order:- (a) No liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs and other establishments selling or serving liquor is permitted to sell or serve liquor to anyone from 6 pm on 30.5.2024 to 6 pm on 01.06.2024. (b) Non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants etc and hotels functioning under different categories of licenses for possession and supply of llquor, are not permitted to serve liquor from 6 pm on 30.5.2024 to 6 pm on 01.06 2024. (c) The storage of liquor by Individuals is curtailed from 6 pm on 30.5.2024 to 6 pm on 1.6.2024 and the restrictions provided In the excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises will be vigorously enforced. The Excise Department will strictly Implement the restrictions. Any person found abusing the law will be strictly dealt with and there wlll be no leniency.
