
Deputy Commissioner orders to economically empower children with special needs through Red Cross.

Komal Mittal has ordered the District Red Cross Society to take steps to economically empower children with special needs. These steps will be taken under the Society's new initiative 'Wings' so that such children can stand on their own feet and become independent for their financial needs.

These steps will be taken under the Society's new initiative 'Wings' so that such children can stand on their own feet and become independent for their financial needs.
While discussing their future with three such children with special needs and their mothers in her office today, she said that when these children become adults, the most important task is to secure their future economically.
She said that in the first phase, the District Red Cross Society will jointly open a 'Tuck Shop' for these three children in an educational institution on a trial basis, where they will be able to ensure their source of income by selling confectionery related products.
Among the three adults with special needs whom he met today, Sarabjit Singh is pursuing BBA from Shaheed Major Harminder Singh Government College, Phase 6, Mohali and has also won two gold medals in races organised for special children. He is also a very good tabla player.
While Jagteshwar Singh, after completing his 10+2 through the Open School, is now preparing for the Special Olympics national cycling competition organised for special children. He has won the state level competition earlier. Apart from this, he has also done a computer course. Nimit Dogra, who is studying in 12th standard, is also a cycling and slow-race athlete and has also won many medals.
Their mothers Rajwant Kaur (Sarabjit Singh), Daman Inder Kaur (Jagteshwar Singh) and Babita Dogra (Nimit Dogra) welcomed this initiative of the district administration and the District Red Cross Society and promised their full support for their success, including ferrying them to and from school. The Deputy Commissioner also praised these mothers who gave their children the courage to live a challenging life with great hard work.
District Red Cross Society Secretary Harbans Singh, while giving more information about the 'Wings' scheme, said that its objective is to arrange such self-employment for these children with special needs, through which they can earn money according to their wish and convenience.
He said that on the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, this will be the first pilot project of the District Red Cross Society, which will be extended to other children with special needs after analyzing its success.
